Brunch at Essex — Potato Pancakes with Lox, Salmon Caviar, and Poached Eggs
This is what I was photographing here.
I want to tell you a love story. It’s about a girl, and the sandwich that changed her life.
Okay, it’s not really a story per say… but I’ve recently fallen in love with Morris Truck’s gouda, apple butter, and back bacon sandwich.
The bread is buttery, perfectly pressed, and has a sprinkling of salt on top.
I don’t know that I’ve ever loved anything more.
Restaurant Week at Ed’s Chowder House
After indulging on delicious cornbread dropped at our table and a bottle of wine, we ordered a slew of things that included:
It was the sort of meal where you go home fairly uncomfortably full. And then go immediately to sleep.

Last night I went out to Butter with the girls from Carrot for Restaurant Week.
First of all, let me just say that the interior of the restaurant is amazing. So beautiful.
Now to the important things. Pictured here is the Salmon and Lentils (it tasted like bacon!), Homemade Ravioli with Ricotta and Sage, and the Sticky Toffee Pudding which made for an incredibly dessert.
Over the weekend we made homemade Sweet Potato Gnocchi with a Brown Butter and Sage Sauce.
The end result was incredibly delicious, albeit very rich. I’ve been a proud member of the clean plate club for many, many years and none of us could finish. We even skipped dessert, which is really saying something.
Here is the recipe if you’re interested, which you should be.
Restaurant Week at City Crab
This was one of the single most filling meals of my entire life. Maybe too filling. which are genuinely words I never thought I’d speak.
We started with Corn and Lobster Chowder, which was incredible and full of thyme that made me think of my mother’s pot pie. We then split the Maryland Lump Crab Cakes and the Pink Pepper Crusted Sterling Salmon with Truffle Risotto. Finally, we split the Cranberry Crème Brulee and Cheesecake for dessert.
I was unspeakably full after last night’s meal.
Yet I still woke up starving this morning. Typical.
