The Marvelettes - “Please Mr. Postman”

All I’ve ever wanted in the years I’ve lived in New York City is a bar that exclusively plays Motown music. If you know of this magical place, it is your obligation to tell me about it immediately.

Celine Dion - “That’s The Way It Is”

I just made a playlist on Spotify called “The Ladies” — essentially, a collection of the best songs by women. There’s obviously a whole lot of Celine on there, in addition to treats from Beyonce, Robyn, Mariah, Feist, and more.

Dixie Chicks - “Not Ready to Make Nice”

I’m admittedly one of those people that generally likes most music, with the exception of country. And I suppose the exception of country should come with its own exception — the Dixie Chicks (and, ugh, some Taylor Swift as well).

Anyways, long story short… I think this is one of the best albums. I may be very influenced by a documentary I watched about the Dixie Chicks post-George-W-Bush-hating-comments and the subsequent recording of this album in the midst of backlash (which is fantastic by the way, I can’t recommend watching it enough). The film is called Shut Up and Sing and is a heartbreaking portrayal of how Americans handle criticism.

Youngbloog Hawke - “We Come Running”

Every part of me wants to soak up this gorgeous May 1st day. This includes listening to this song on repeat and going for a walk around Brooklyn Bridge Park while eating ice cream.

It will happen.

Phoenix - “Bourgeois”

My favorite song off the new album after a listen or two.

Ray Charles - “Baby It’s Cold Outside”

No really, it’s freezing.

Discovery - “Swing Tree”

Perfect weather, perfect music.

Beyonce - “Countdown”

This song has nothing to do with what I’m about to say except for the title… but I’m counting down (get it??) until the Top Chef cruise tomorrow! So unbelievably excited!

All Saints - “Never Ever”

Or how about this song…. which taught me that British people said “zed” instead of “zee.”
