10:07pm on the 6 train

11 Years Later
Every year, there are two enormous beams of light where the Twin Towers used to be. I thought I’d read that last year, the 10th anniversary, would be the last time they’d shine those lights for the 24 hours around 9/11.
And then tonight, as I was in a cab coming home from the airport, I saw them again. Those incredible blue lights. Only this was the first time I’d seen them from outside the city. Every year I’ve looked up, or across from a rooftop, to see them protruding out of the middle of downtown Manhattan. But tonight… I saw them from the outside. And I just sat there, with my mouth hanging open. They take over the entire skyline, your vision. It was an unbelievable sight.
The second I got home I rushed up to my rooftop. It’s strange that I was glad when I saw those lights again. Glad that I could take even just a few minutes and think back, remember what happened, and be thankful for what I have.
I hope those two beams of light shine every year.

We’ve got a pretty incredible view when storms take over the city. Manhattan literally disappears within seconds.
