Hello! I was just wondering, what did you major in? And what do you do for a living? Do you enjoy it?

Hello! I majored in history and American culture studies. Absolutely nothing applicable to my life post-college. Most of my classes revolved around civil rights, popular culture, and media (tv, music, movies). I intentionally studied something I loved, knowing it wouldn’t help my career.

I’m a Producer at Carrot Creative. That basically means that I run projects internally and work with clients on social media projects like Facebook and iPhone apps, strategy, etc. And I love it an incredible amount! It’s a job that’s dynamic and always changing, you’re always working with new people, and the Carrot team is absolutely fantastic.

Do you reside in Manhattan, or Brooklyn?

I happily reside in Manhattan.

Update: I chose Wash U! Can't say the food wasn't a factor, but I'm really excited. Do you have any tips for new students? Also, what did you major in because your job seems like it's the type of thing I might want to do. Thanks

Hurray! I hope you love Wash U as much as I did! Hmm, new student tips. I’d go with — try the thai food on the loop, join and club or do IM sports or something (they aren’t too serious), apparently the Duck is nice but it didn’t exist when I was there, Holmes Lounge lunches are the best, and if you need a deadly quiet place to write a paper, go to the bottom floor of the library.

I majored in History with a minor in American Culture Studies. So, nothing related to my job whatsoever. But a major like that means you 1) learn how to deal well with people, 2) can write, and 3) aren’t so crazy focused on one thing (like finance) that you can be malleable in your future career. Just my thoughts on it though!

I think I wouldn't have liked you when I was in my mid-to-late twenties, but now that i am in my mid-thirties I kind of wish I knew you then .,. I hope you're as cool and down-to-earth as you seem

Oh.. umm.. thank you? I like to think I’m pretty down to earth but you’d have to talk to my friends to know the unbiased truth I suppose.

So thank you, mid-thirties anon.

Anonymous ASKED:

I vaguely remember reading that you went to Wash U. Did you like your experience? I'm trying to decide now between Wash U and Rice and am looking for any information I can get!

I did go to Wash U… you have a great memory anon. I absolutely loved it. Wash U was the perfect place for me. So I really know nothing about Rice (except that it’s in Texas, but here are a few things that factored into my decision:

  • I wanted to have a real campus (hence why I decided not to go to college in New York City)
  • I wanted to play lacrosse and not hate traveling far to a field
  • I wanted the campus to feel relaxed
  • I wanted sororities to not be a huge deal
  • I wanted to be close to a major city

Anyways… it’s really all about weighing your pros and cons. For me, I knew I wanted to live in New York after college, and since all the other schools I was looking at were in Manhattan, it made sense for my to go to Wash U. Also it’s gorgeous, they have amazing food, and I took amazing classes.

If it's really Beyonce's tumblr, why is it all photos of her? Just seems like a fan blog to me. Nothing personal to say it's really her. Oh & what's the big deal with her? I mean she's a good performer and all, but I don't understand the hype.

Why wouldn’t all the photos be of Beyonce? It’s just like the photos section of any artist’s website, except it’s extended onto the Tumblr platform. If you click the navigation to the left you see that it’s linked up with the info on her actual website (news, tour, etc.)

Also, what’s the big deal? You’re crazy anonymous. It’s Bey!

Anonymous ASKED:

I'm sorry, but I could never justify in paying $13 to see a movie. The most I've ever paid was $6, and I cringe in paying that (If I go it's normally before 6pm & is $4.50 ). I'd rather just wait till it come out in dvd, pay the $3. I can eat my own food & be in pjs! I love New York, but I don't know how you all pay for everything like you do all of the time! What's your secret?

I can certainly understand the sentiment but it’s just a fact of living in Manhattan. I suppose it makes you think “This movie isn’t worth spending the money, I’ll wait for it on Netflix” or you go see movies before noon at AMC theaters because it’s only $6 (a great discovery). Everything in New York costs more. If you’re baffled by paying $13 to see a movie, you don’t even want to know what we pay for rent.

So, there is no secret. You just deal with it. And you, weirdly, just get used to it.

Anonymous ASKED:

how do you decide who to follow on tumbler? why don't you follow people who follow you?

Ummm I don’t really know. If you have good pictures of food, are funny and/or snarky, take nice photos, listen to good music, then I’m likely to follow you.

I also don’t really like following a crazy amount of people. Since I’m pretty busy during the day it can be too overwhelming to feel like I have to catch up with everything!

Anonymous ASKED:

How do you feel about that commercial that markets nutella as a healthy snack for kids? (the one where the mom puts nutella on toast to get them to eat)

I don’t really have a problem with it. I mean, anyone who tastes Nutella has to know it isn’t good for you. I mean my god, healthy things could never taste even half as good as Nutella. I also wouldn’t say the campaign is a total lie. Putting a small tablespoon of Nutella on some whole wheat bread isn’t the worst thing in the world. No, it isn’t healthy. But as they say in the ad, it’s part of a healthy breakfast… or something like that.

Mostly I just feel bad for the people that believe it. I mean, it goes for any advertisement.. and anyone who blindly believes ads. It goes much further than this Nutella example. Ads involve manipulation, it’s a sad fact.
