I had the opportunity to have an epic meal the other night at the newly opened Fornino Pizza in Greenpoint. We sat up front so we could watch the guys make the pizza and shift them around in the wood burning oven.
Foolishly, we started out thinking “Of course, let’s just get a few appetizers (chopped salad and the amazing homemade mozzarella) and a few personal sized pizzas to split.” But we were foolishly mistaken once we started chatting with Mike, the amazing owner — who also blows glass in his spare time — who insisted we try a few other pizzas.
Below is a list of the various things we consumed, and why I immediately came home and fell asleep on the couch afterwards:
Homemade mozzarella with basil and grape tomatoes
Magherita Classica pizza
Spinach pizza (my personal favorite, with spinach, ricotta, toasted pine nuts, and truffle oil)
Lombardi pizza (arugula, shaved parmesan, and plentiful amounts of proscuitto)
Melanzane pizza (mozzarella, ricotta, eggplant, parmesan, and basil)
Spinacio e Sopressata (mozzarella, spinach, sopressata, cherry tomatoes
Tartuffo (mozzarella, fontina, ricotta, black winter truffles, and truffle oil)
It’s important to keep in mind that we are three small girls and our stomachs could only expand so far. The food was absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to spend even more time at Fornino.
